Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Prime Minister of the Netherlands H.E. Mark Rutte on his appointment for a fourth term

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly congratulated His Excellency Mark Rutte on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Netherlands and conveyed his best wishes for a successful fourth consecutive term in office. In his tweet on January 11, 2022 Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence in working together with Prime Minister Rutte in further advancing the wide-ranging partnership between India and the Netherlands to new heights.

In recent years, India-Netherlands ties have further energized with the regular high-level visits and frequent interaction at the highest level. The two Prime Ministers held a virtual summit on 09 April 2021, which was among the first high-level summits attended by Prime Minister Rutte after the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands in March 2021. Both the leaders had a detailed review of the entire spectrum of bilateral engagements and exchanged views on further expanding and diversifying the relationship. A ‘Strategic Partnership on Water’ was instituted between India & Netherlands to further deepen cooperation in the water-related sector.

India and the Netherlands enjoy a multi-faceted partnership encompassing key sectors of trade and investment, water, agriculture, health, science and technology. Both sides share convergence and actively collaborate on important multilateral issues including the Indo-Pacific and climate action.

The Netherlands has consistently been among the top investors in India. During the period between April 2000 to September 2021, the Dutch investments in India ranked fourth totaling USD 38.78 billion. The Netherlands is home to the largest Indian Diaspora on mainland Europe, including 200,000 strong Surinami-Hindustani community. Around 64,000 NRIs/PIOs comprising of businessmen, knowledge workers, professionals and students are living and working in the Netherlands, contributing immensely to the economy and society.

The year 2022 marks a special milestone for the two countries as India and the Netherlands jointly commemorate 75 years of establishment of diplomatic ties.
