There are three categories of higher education institutions in The Netherlands:

  1. Recognised public institutions: There are two types of recognised public institutions:
Universities and Universities of Applied Science (\"hogescholen\"), both of which offer programmes
with an academic as well as a professional orientation.
  2. Recognised private institutions: These institutions do not receive public funding. However,
after having completed a special institutional procedure and initial accreditation of their
programmes, these institutions are allowed to offer bachelor and master\'s programmes.
  3. Privately funded institutions that are not recognized: These institutions are not recognised
and are only allowed to offer postgraduate programmes. These programmes have to get (initial) accreditation.

The Netherlands has a three cycle degree structure in line with the European Higher Education Area:

  • Bachelor\'s degrees

    Bachelor\'s programme (academic orientation)

  1. Travel Advisory for students

The overall security as well as law and order situation in the Netherlands is satisfactory.
Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is the biggest international airport in the country where travelers fly in from most countries in the world.
The airport is connected by train to most of the larger cities in the Netherlands such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht among others.
The Netherlands has a well organized public transport system, both within and between cities consisting of train, metro, tram and bus networks.
The dense railway network which offers frequent service is the quickest and most economical way to travel between cities.
A smart card called OV-chipkaart, which can be used on all forms of public transport, can be bought and ‘topped up’
with travel credit at public transport service desks, ticket vending machines in stations, as well as several supermarkets.
Information related to public transport including detailed travel directions can be found at on online door-door public
transportation journey planner called 9292 (available as a mobile app and also at http://9292.nl/en). Cycling is the
easiest and most economical way to get around within cities in the Netherlands which has more than 32,000 kilometres
of biking paths. Cycling in the Netherlands is much safer and more convenient than in other countries, because of the infrastructure viz.
cycle paths, cycle lanes, and signposted cycle routes. In addition to bicycles, public transport and cars, you can also rely on taxis, although they are expensive.
It is possible to take a taxi to your destination from any Dutch airport. There are permanent taxi stops in many cities (particularly near popular squares, attractions and stations).
Uber, the mobile app based alternative taxi service is available in major Dutch cities.
In case of Emergency: If you should be in need of immediate medical attention, call the emergency services
(police, fire services and ambulance) at 112.Registration of Indian Students in the MADAD Portal, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India:
