India- The Global Innovation Hub

Indian and its diverse trapestries have been a hotbead for new ideas with a long tradition innovation like the invention of zero and the decimal system. Home to one of the three great ancient civilisations (The Indus Valley Civilisation), the place of origin of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, pioneering Universities like Nalanda and Takshshila, structuring architectural and engineering marvels such as the Iron Pillar in Delhi, rock cut Temples, Taj Mahal, Qutab Minar, scripting of magnificent works such as Arthshastra, Rigveda, Upanishads, traditional knowledge systems in Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, Dance, Music, etc. After independence in 1947, Indian innovations have facilitated Agriculture Revolution, Milk Revolution, Telecom growth, ICT Export, Space exploration, Atomic Energy, Defense, Pharma, Biotech, etc. The Government of India has invested a great deal in building institutions & Infrastructures to facilitate innovations. Simultaneously appropriate policies & programmes have been introduced to help foster innovations. India has a significant pool of qualified people, both within the country as well as the diaspora, presently engaged in bustling innovative activities around the globe. This talent pool has to be leveraged to drive the innovation agenda. There is also a need to capture the multiple innovations happening in various domains such as the government, R&D labs and universities to give an impetus to the innovation process in the country.

Start up India is a campaign is based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start ups with jobs creation. The campaign was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 15 August 2015 address from the Red Fort. For more information click here. 

Atal Innovation Mission including Self-Employment and Talent Utilization (SETU) is Government of India’s endeavour to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. Its objective is to serve as a platform for promotion of world-class Innovation Hubs, Grand Challenges, Start-up businesses and other self-employment activities, particularly in technology driven areas. 

National Innovation Foundation India is an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, based on the Honey Bee Network philosophy, which provides institutional support to grassroots innovators and outstanding traditional knowledge holders from the unorganized sector of the society. For more information click here
